THINKING OF BUYING A CRITICAL ILLNESS POLICY ?

1. Buy the policy as a standalone Critical Illness Plan as it covers a wider set of critical diseases, does not impose any restrictions on the extent of cover, besides a higher sum assured.
2. If you prefer to buy a Critical Illness Rider, take it with your life insurance cover, as the premium is lower than a basic medical insurance plan.
3. While non-life insurers offer a CI cover for 1-5 years, life insurers provide it for a longer term of 10-20 years.
4. Ideally, one should buy a CI Plan around the age of 40 as most ailments have the highest probability of developing around that age.
5. As CI policies are benefits plans, if the disease is covered under multiple policies, you will be entitled to receive an amount equal to the cover in all the policies.
